Gender is a fuck. But what can you do about it?

Hobbies form an important part of everyone’s day-to-day lives, and how you choose to relax and unwind is an integral aspect of your private life. You may be thinking “it’s my private time, I’ll do what I like” but as with everything else, let’s bring gender into the situation.

You have your traditional “masculine” or male hobbies, like grilling, reading manly books, destroying the environment, smoking cigars and Brazilian jiu-jitsu. And you have your “feminine” or female hobbies, like sewing, horse riding, lapdancing (to release your dark feminine energy)…

I’m so tired.

Have you hung-out with a trans person lately? Have you noticed how tired they are?

The invention of the internet has brought us a lot of great things, namely the ability to instantly access a near-limitless bank of information, as well as communities forming that may never have come together without the internet. This means it’s easier to organise meet-ups with friends than it’s ever been before, you can keep track of which of your favourite celebrities have secretly been monsters all along. and it makes it possible for people from disadvantaged and oppressed groups to overcome…

This past weekend members of the Green Party (Comhaontas Glas) voted against a motion for the Party to explicitly rule out future coalition governments with Fine Gael, Fianna Fáil, any right-wing party or “any party whose values or policies conflict with those of the Green Party.”

Full disclosure: I’m a member of the Green Party, have been for several years. I was involved in drafting the motion, and I couldn’t be there in person to vote due to a family emergency. …

Crabs are a constant in daily life. That’s not shocking anyone out there. You go for a run in the hills? Crab. Traversing through the low-lands and riversides? Crab. Walking through your lab after it’s been ravaged by a rift in space and time? Crab.

Hell, some people even worship crabs.

I started writing this blog in September. I (apparently) wrote the title, added the lovely stock image you see above on September 16th at 2:49am and then…stopped. Writing this now it’s the 17th of November at around 1:09am, so just over two months later.

Funny how that happens.

I had intended to write this at the beginning of the college year. It was the first time since I was three years old that I wouldn’t be walking through the doors of some sort of school, and while I can be introspective to a fault, at times, I wanted to pass…

If you follow me on social media, and haven’t already figured out from my repeated assertions that Roy Keane was ONE-HUNDRED PERCENT RIGHT in Saipan, I’m from Cork. Cork, for the international/Dublin readers, is a city in the very south of Ireland. Cork is also, I say from my objective standpoint as a journalist, the greatest place in the world. And with an international airport, several bus and rail routes, and decent road infrastructure Cork is easily accessible to all who may want to visit it. Except for Mick McCarthy. We still remember.

Disenchantment is not only the latest ‘Netflix Original’ series, but it’s also the newest project from The Simpsons creator Matt Groening. Despite the many times previews of Disenchantment auto-played when you were just trying to binge-watch Bake-Off for the eightieth time this week, overall hype for the show was low, possibly due to either the rate at which the endless stream of Netflix Originals flows these days, or due to the lackluster quality of the later episodes of Groening’s previous animated shows, The Simpsons and Futurama. Before giving it a go I wondered if Disenchantment would be Groening’s American Dad…

[Content warning: Eating disorders and serious injuries will be discussed at points in this article]

Once you take a break from the gym, or whatever your exercise method of choice is, it can be a seemingly insurmountable task to get back at it. The stress that goes into climbing back on the treadmill can be made worse when the reason for your break wasn’t necessarily yours. Fate may have forced your hand, through injury, in becoming a couch potato, but that doesn’t make it your destiny. …

If you’ve watched professional wrestling for any modicum of time, you’ve surely heard of the name of Bruno Sammartino at least once. ‘The Living Legend’ held the world title for over 11 years — 4,040 days — and somehow that’s almost the least most interesting thing about the man.

Sammartino was born in the small isolated town of Pizzoferrato in the Abruzzo region of Italy in 1935 to Alfonso and Emilia. Located near the mountains of Chieti, the remote town even now is sparsely populated (a 2017 estimate puts the population at 1,062), and at the time Bruno lived there…

At the time of writing this, the Irish women have just beaten Spain to progress to the final of the 2018 women’s hockey world cup. This is the first world cup final, in any sport, at the senior level, that Ireland have ever reached. Heading into this world cup Ireland were true underdogs, ranked 16th in the world out of a total thirty-five, meaning that they were the second-lowest ranked team in the tournament (Just ahead of Italy, who were 17th). Unlike the football world cup, only 16 teams entered the tournament and, despite being in a tough group that…
